Middle July Pier Report

Daily activity:

Thursday 17th: water temp 78.8 NW 5-7mph in the a.m. / 82.9 WSW 15-20mph in the p.m. There were several under size King Mackerel, a Bonita, and three Tarpon hooked in the early morning. One Tarpon was brought to the pier. Jale caught a small Sailfish in the morning. The afternoon brought “Flipper” taking bait and our fish. There were three small King Mackerel hooked but lost. A huge school of Jack Crevalle came by and two were caught. Gavin caught a 22,5 # and John a 23.5-pound. Several Spanish Mackerel were decked. A small Sailfish came in twice but did not eat. There were Cigar Minnows, Spanish Sardine and Alewives available for live bait.


Friday: water temp 77.5 ESE 0-5 mph in the a.m. / 82.0 SW10-12 mph in the p.m. Bill H. caught a 22-pound King Mackerel in the early morning and John C. caught a Tarpon. There were a few Spanish Mackerel and Ladyfish in the afternoon. A small Sailfish shot past the end Tee chasing bait- It then returned twice circling bait but did not eat. There were Cigar Minnows and Alewives available for live bait.

Saturday: water temp 79.3 N 5-9mph in the a.m. / 84.2 W 12-15 mph in the p.m. Several small King Mackerel were caught. A small Sailfish popped up beside Jeffery’s bait in the afternoon. Then out of the blue a 100+ pound Yellowfin Tuna inhaled his bait. It was a short fight as it went down the side of the pier and under…still, a once in a lifetime event. A few Tarpon were hooked.


Sunday: water temp 80.8 NW 4-7mph in the a.m. / 84.9 NNE 5-10mph A couple of Sailfish came through but wouldn’t eat. Several Spanish Mackerel were caught in the morning. The late afternoon brought a few King Mackerel and Tarpon. Cigar Minnows were available for live bait.


Monday: water temp 83.5 NW 8-12mph in the a.m. / 85.3 WNW 8-12mph Six King Mackerel were caught and Blaze hooked a big Sailfish this morning. Tashard decked a King too. Two schools of Tarpon came through but none were hooked. They almost had to break out the fire extinguisher for Blaze’s old Penn Greenie before it broke off. Several Spanish Mackerel and Ladyfish were caught. Chewy caught a small King and a small Sailfish this afternoon. Late afternoon Allen and John caught Kings. Cigar Minnows, Spanish Sardine and Alewives were available for live bait.

 

 


Tuesday: water temp 80.4 NNE 4-6mph in the a.m. / 83.1 W 15-20mph mid-afternoon then a thunderstorm moved through with 20-30mph wind out of the West. The morning was slow, and the early afternoon was no different. There were a few Spanish Mackerel, Ladyfish and Hardtails. As the thunderstorm moved through the Kings turned on, and several were caught. Kim and Hai each decked a King. Cigar Minnows, Spanish Sardine and Alewives were available for live bait.

 

 


 

Wednesday: water temp 78.8 ENE 5-10mph in the a.m. / 82.6 SE 15-20mph Big Bonita and a few Spanish Mackerel in the morning. A couple of schools of Tarpon passed the end Tee but there were no hook-ups. Baby Bonita and a few Spanish in the afternoon. I got one small King Mackerel just before 5:00p.m. There were 4 or 5 more “schoolies” caught after 5:00p.m. Cigar Minnows, Spanish Sardine and Alewives were available for live bait.

 

 


Red Tide status: INorthwest Florida over the past week, K. brevis was not observed.
